Working-group consultations under the China-US Military Maritime Consultation Mechanism were held in Hawaii on May 28 and 29, with relevant information released by China on June 1. Focused on building constructive and stable bilateral ties, the two sides exchanged candid views on maritime security and reviewed the implementation of the Rules of Behavior for Air and Sea Encounters. The Chinese side firmly opposed close-in reconnaissance and any provocative actions violating China’s sovereignty. Both parties acknowledged regular communication helps frontline troops operate properly and reduce misjudgment risks.
